Microsoft Edge
These are the names Ubuntu users actually mean when they search for browsers with workspaces—not AWS WorkSpaces or container desktops.
Named workspaces + tab stacks + tiling
.deb from vivaldi.com or repo
The deepest workspace toolkit on Linux—separate contexts with icons, plus tab stacks and split views for research sprints.
Sidebar workspaces with icons & hotkeys
.deb / snap from opera.com
Fast context switching out of the box. Workspaces stay local—no cross-device sync—but setup on Ubuntu is painless.
Color-coded workspaces + Collections
microsoft-edge-stable package (Microsoft repo)
Strongest sync story on Ubuntu—workspaces follow your Microsoft account across Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Firefox-based workspaces + vertical tabs
.tar.xz / AppImage from zen-browser.app
Arc-adjacent feel on Linux: vertical sidebar, workspace switching, and a privacy-first Firefox core.
Workspaces + Firefox tab groups
.deb / Flatpak
Japanese Firefox fork with workspace panels—lighter than Vivaldi, more flexible than stock Firefox containers.
Multi-Account Containers (not full workspaces)
sudo snap install firefox or apt
Containers color-code contexts but lack one-click workspace switching—pair with Tree Style Tab for a sidebar.
Spaces + profiles (macOS & Windows only)
No Linux build
The browser Reddit threads compare to most—but Arc does not ship for Ubuntu. Try Zen or Vivaldi instead.
AI smart tab groups + Agent tab groups
Windows & macOS only (free)
Not on Ubuntu today—but if you dual-boot or remote into Windows/macOS, Tabbit turns workspaces into an AI-executable work surface.
Scan install method, native workspaces, and sync before you migrate fifty tabs.

Vivaldi・Opera・Edgeで共通する3ステップ。
Install from an official channel
Prefer signed .deb packages (Vivaldi, Opera) or Microsoft’s apt repo for Edge. Avoid random third-party builds for a browser that holds your passwords.
Create your first workspace
In Vivaldi: bottom-left workspace bar → + icon. Opera/GX: sidebar workspaces icon. Edge: toolbar Workspaces button. Name contexts Work, Research, Personal.
Pin rules per workspace
Keep email in Work, docs in Research, and mute media tabs in Personal. Use different profiles only when you need separate logins—not for every context switch.

Dual-boot & remote desktop users
Tabbit does not ship for Ubuntu yet. If you keep a Windows or Mac partition—or RDP into one—Tabbit is the AI-native workspace browser those threads keep asking for.
Tabbitは現時点でWindows/macOSのみ。Ubuntu専用ならVivaldiかZenを。
AI smart tab groups
Tabs auto-cluster by topic so your workspace stays readable without manual drag-and-drop.
Agent runs in its own tab group
Delegate research or form filling while you keep browsing—tasks never hijack your current workspace.
Vertical sidebar + @ context
Reference any open tab, tab group, or file with @ in the omnibox—no copy-paste archaeology.
Free top models built in
GPT, Claude, Gemini (intl) or DeepSeek, Kimi, Qwen (CN)—inside the browser, not another tab.
Ubuntu FAQ
Vivaldi, Opera/Opera GX, Microsoft Edge, Zen Browser, and Floorp ship Linux builds with built-in or workspace-style grouping. Firefox uses Multi-Account Containers—a related but lighter pattern.
No. Arc is limited to macOS and Windows. On Ubuntu, Zen Browser and Vivaldi are the closest alternatives with vertical tabs and workspace switching.
Not today. Tabbit supports Windows and macOS. If you dual-boot or remote into those systems, you can use Tabbit there while keeping Vivaldi or Edge on Ubuntu.
Microsoft Edge syncs workspaces via your Microsoft account—including the Linux build. Vivaldi and Opera workspaces are local unless you use separate sync for bookmarks/history.
Vivaldi wins on depth: tab stacks, tiling, and named workspaces. Opera wins on simplicity and hotkey switching. Both install cleanly on Ubuntu 22.04+.
Yes—Ask Ubuntu threads discuss per-GNOME-workspace default apps. That is separate from in-browser workspaces; you can combine both for project separation.
Download from zen-browser.app or verified community packages. As with any Firefox fork, verify checksums and update channels before importing passwords.
Vivaldi for power users, Edge if you need cross-device workspace sync, Zen for an Arc-like vertical layout. For AI-driven grouping, use Tabbit on Windows or macOS alongside your Linux browser.
