KEEP THE BOUNDARY VISIBLE

Private browsing is not total invisibility

Tor can lower linkability in a browser session. It cannot remove every signal, protect every application or make an untrusted destination safe.

    The network may see Tor use

    An ISP or local observer may be able to tell that you are connecting to Tor even when they cannot see the destination content.

    HTTPS still matters

    Tor encrypts traffic inside its network. After the exit relay, confidentiality to the site depends on HTTPS and the site itself.

    Your behavior still speaks

    A login, unique writing style, repeated routine or identifying form field can connect a session to you.

    Phishing, malware, browser bugs and unsafe downloads can compromise you outside the network path. Another app may connect directly.

What does Tor Browser actually do?

It routes browser traffic through the Tor network, which can make it harder for a website to connect the session to your usual IP address and makes routine tracking harder. It does not make every action or application anonymous.

Is Tor Browser only for the dark web?

No. It can open ordinary websites and known legitimate .onion services. The presence of an onion address says how a service is reached, not whether the service or its content is safe.

Does Tor Browser make me completely anonymous?

No. The Tor Project says perfect anonymity is not possible. Logins, identifying details, device compromise, traffic correlation and recognizable behavior can still matter.

Does Tor protect my whole computer?

No. Tor Browser protects the traffic it sends through Tor. Other apps, background services and external document viewers may use the ordinary network.

Is Tor better than a VPN?
